Semester 2 - Visual Storytelling Project
Semester 2 - Visual Storytelling Project
Just a quick update now that I have moved onto semester 2 I will be changing the focus of my masters research as I briefly mention at the end of my photogrammetry project.
While I found the photogrammetry project interesting and it has helped me gain a new skill in my toolkit as a designer, I felt I was a little stuck creatively on where to go next with the project so with this I have decided to shift onto a new endeavour.

Within this next project I will be using pieces of non-visual storytelling that describes a series of objects or a whole scene, which will take the form of narrative descriptions from popular dungeons and dragons games. Using this information, I will attempt to create objects or partial scenes that use the narrative descriptor as a basic foundation for building on top of, while using multiple facets of 3D visual storytelling to capture the original vision or feeling of the original description.
I would then compare the two pieces of media side by side and propose the question to others whether the 3D representation that I have created is what they envisioned when they read through the narrative description or are there parts of it which don’t match the individuals own imagination.
I am specifically trying to stay away from any pieces of illustration or concepting artwork that may have been produced alongside the pieces of narrative description, if it has any. The reason for this is I do not want to be swayed during my creative process into just recreating what I have seen others do. My aim is to make the work uniquely mine and use a collection of other references during the creation process for each individual object and really ensure that every object can stand on it's own and tell a story through it's own design. Then hopefully they can all exist in a space together and work harmoniously to reinterpret the narrative and feeling into a 3D only space.
I may also look to collaborating with my peers in this regard as I know John who is traditionally an illustrator is also working on a project that features a relation to narrative and D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) so it would be interesting for us to work together in creating something from a narrative in our own methods and then comparing the two to each other to explore the similarities and differences between each piece and how our own creative processes and experiences impact the work itself.
