 Artist Research - Wouter Gillioen

Wouter Gillioen is currently an employee for Ubisoft Massive, Sweden and is working at the moment on the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. I came across his work via Artstation when I was looking for potential artists I could contact for the Essay. 

One of his earlier pieces of work caught my eye which was the Oh Dear - C3P0! piece that he created while he was studying. 



His goal with this piece was to fulfil an assignment set to him where he had to chose an old piece of art and reimagine it as a new piece. The work he chose was "a cobbler in his workshop" by David Tenier II, which is a very famous renaissance painting. 



The activity was to allow students to use an already established piece in order to teach composition and lighting and how to recreate that in your own work. Another of his pieces stood out to me is below.





This piece is designed around a vintage bench vice. The level of detail added into this piece such as the chalk markings and wear is something that I would like to inject into my own work going forward and taking both pieces core concepts into my own practice, which is composition and making a scene feel lived in.

 Tavern Scene - Reference Image building So this is just a quick post with a link to my pinterest board that I use for the reference images to start building the first scene of the Tavern. I decided I wanted the iconic tavern table scene so started to gather reference for tables, chairs and other miscellaneous items such as tankards, bottles, etc...  Here is the link to the pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/lmuir2963/tavernreference-masters/ I also gathered some reference images for fantasy style weapons as I plan to implement them into the scene somehow to give some more visual information to the group of adventurers that are using the table. Literature Review Book 1

  Literature review book 1          As seen from the image above the first book I intend to use within my literature review is titled Close Range Photogrammetry written by Thomas Luhmann and others, originally published in 2006 and looks to have been republished in 2011.      This book looks at the theory of photogrammetry as well as the practical and technical applications at the time of publication. This will be incredibly useful for me to understand the nuances of photogrammetry and expand my knowledge on the subject at a fundamental level.      The one thing I have to take into consideration is the age of the publication, as technologies and methods have advanced so much in the last 15 to 20 years or so this book while useful isn't all there is to know and after briefly scanning through the book there doesn't seem to be much reference to photogrammetry within games design, I do need a more detailed read of the book to ensur...

MA Games Design - High Poly P9 Part 2

  High Poly Pistol Development     Just another quick progress update to follow on from the last post with some more screenshots of the high poly pistol development process.      As you can see in the above screenshots I added back in the trigger, slide lock and mag release button along with the front and rear iron sights. These were all pretty simple to do and most were just using the base low poly version, the slide lock I had to remodel the right side as on the low poly version there weren't enough grip indentations which caused an issue when trying to increase the detail.      As well as this I modelled in the tactile grip sections on the front and back of the pistol grip section on the lower receiver. This was a case of modelling one version I was happy with and then just duplicating it down along the sections and placing them correctly so they fit within the ergonomics of the lower receiver.
